The Auto-ID Lab at MIT coined the term Internet of Things "IoT" and traces its roots back to 1999 with the founding of the Auto-ID Center, which laid much of the groundwork for the standardization of RFID technology and the introduction of the EPC. Now a member of the global Auto-ID Labs network, the Lab continues research on the evolution and application of RFID systems, as well as other disruptive Internet of Things technologies.
