The BRIDGE project (http://www.bridge-project.eu) is concerned with 'Building RFID systems for the Global Environment'.
Many of its application work packages are concerned with tracking objects and reusable assets across the supply chain and throughout their lifecycle.
One of the technical work packages, WP2 (Serial-level lookup services) is now beginning a sub-task on the design of Discovery Services, as part of its Task 2.2, concerned with the integration with existing information systems.
Please note that this activity is not a replacement for a future EPCglobal work group on Discovery Services (as yet unchartered) - but it is intended that our efforts will also be contributed as input to the formal standards development process for Discovery Services when EPCglobal do charter this and that the two activities may even run in parallel.
The design sub-task will be primarily concerned with the design of standard interfaces for EPC Discovery Services, to provide a standard way for clients to query Discovery Services to perform track and trace queries, to notify Discovery Services of changes of custody or additional providers of lifecycle information - and also to support standing (long-running) queries to Discovery Services on a publish-and-subscribe basis.
We would now like to make an open invitation to all parties interested in participating in this design task to provide us some further information about how they could contribute.
In particular, we invite you to share your thoughts on the importance of standard interfaces for Discovery Services.
We would also be interested to hear what your organization would be willing to contribute to the design task.
Please note that all organizations participating in the design task will be expected to commit to serious interaction between now and January 2007, via conference calls and e-mail discussion lists and possibly also at a face-to-face meeting in Barcelona around January 15/16.
Please also note that any involvement would be via an informal working relationship with BRIDGE WP2 - and that organizations who are not already members of the BRIDGE project may not claim that they are members, sponsors or in any other way affiliated to the BRIDGE project other than that they 'are contributing to a design task for Discovery Services within BRIDGE work package 2'.
If your organization is interested in contributing to the design of EPC Discovery Services within BRIDGE WP2, please contact ds-design@autoidlabs.org.uk
